THE MARRIEDS – WITHOUT MUSIC

Two-time Jack Richardson London Music Award Winners (Folk/Roots), Canadian Folk Music Award Nominees (Vocal Group of the Year), Toronto Independent Music Award Nominees (Folk/Roots & Best Music Video), and most recently, the 2019 winners of Folk Music Ontario’s “Songs From The Heart” competition in the Roots Category, The Marrieds are known for their folk-country sound filled with clever lyrics and sweet harmonies. They have shared the stage with luminaries including Kathleen Edwards, Rose Cousins, Bahamas, The Trews, Danny Michel, Lennie Gallant, Ian Thomas, Tommy Cash, Fluke Holland, and many others. With four studio albums under their belts, including their new September 2019 release “Heavy Hearts”, The Marrieds perform for audiences across Canada, winning praise for their songwriting, performances, and charm.

As the OMEA visioned our 100th Anniversary, it became clear that we needed to find a way to creatively mark the occasion.  As Ontario Educators, working in schools themselves, we felt The Marrieds would be an excellent choice to provide that voice for other teachers.  The collaborative writing journey began at Counterpoint 2018 where Jane & Kevin facilitated an idea-gathering session to incorporate as many members’ voices into the entire composition. They used the ideas generated to create a song that is versatile and could be arranged for many musical situations.
